Summary: Another voice in the chorus
Comment: I have the misfortune of having recently moved into a new home with one of these smoke detectors. I agree with many of the reviewers here, and am writing this review just to add my voice to the chorus. Attention potential buyers: This thing is far worse than useless. Random intermittent ear-piercing bleeps, unintelligible documentation, shoddy worksmanship ... it's making my life a living hell. I replaced the battery and cleaned the unit with compressed air a month or so ago and it was quiet for a bit, and now it's starting to go off in the middle of the night (and at other random times) again; worse, since all the smoke detectors are interconnected, when this one goes off they all go off.
It's a horrible piece of junk. Steer clear.

Summary: RIP-OFF!!!!!!
Comment: This product is TERRIBLE! We have a combination of 4120Bs and 9120Bs and they have gone off intermittently ever since our electricians installed these. A lot of the time, these go off during the middle of the night, probably due to power fluctuations--but I agree with the poster who questioned "Why have a battery backup?" if the thing won't work. There are undoubtably going to be fluctuations of the power grid; but when these go off for that reason, in my mind is reflective of poor design. Replacing the battery is a challenge worthy of a the most expert puzzle solver. My advice -- look for another brand, or buy earplugs.

Summary: Replacement Smoke Detector
Comment: I bought this item to replace the older/outdated smoke alarms. What I like most was it plugged right into the current connector. No wires to splice. The old plate had to be replaced, but that was loosening two screws taking the old one off and putting the new one in. In all, it took me 5 minutes to swap the old with the new. If you have a BRK brand alarm, I'd strongly recommend this as a replacement.

Comment: Please read the reviews, this product is horrible!! Chirping at 3:30 AM for NO REASON is the norm. I've had 3 of these, new backup batteries and all, and they all fail. Go elsewhere, I am.

Comment: I purchased this to replace a broken smoke detector. This matched up perfectly with the others in service in our home and we have had no false alarms since installing.
