Customer Rating: Summary: A lot of watch for the money Comment: I've had this watch for about a week. I can't believe this watch offers all of its features (alarm, chrono, perp. calendar, eco-drive, solid titanium) for such a low price.
The watch is relatively lightweight and very easy to read. The band is comfortable. Due to the number of features that the watch has, I spent a few minutes reading the instruction book before I adjusted anything. Once you figure out how to adjust things, it's pretty simple.
If you're looking for a feature-packed watch that's attractive and stylish, consider adding this to your list of choices. Given all the features packed into this watch, it should easily sell for $100 more than the list price.
Customer Rating: Summary: Rugged, Eco-friendly watch for the gadget savvy. Comment: I am using this watch for over an year now, and I give it a 5 star !!! I love the design, look and functions of this watch. It exceeds all expectations in looks and operation. This watch does everything that I expected and more.
The good-
The step-by-step manual is easy to understand even for the non-geeky type.
The dark-blue dial with a cross-line texture looks trendy against the titanium dial and white letters. Its also easy to read even in dim lights.
The crystal is really tough and has sustained some minor scratching, because I have banged it against car door and other things accidently many times.
The 22mm-wide strap is beefy and goes really well with casual as well as formals. I also tried changing the metal strp myself - I bought a 22-mm brown leather band. The titanium case goes really well with brown leather strap. Make sure you use extra care while changing the strap as putting the titanium strap back is a bit tricky.
The alarm is feeble, but that's all you can expect from an heavy built metal watch which is not digital.
Things I don't like: The mode function is a bit annoying. Accidently turning the crown slightly will change the mode setting you had - chrono, alarm, time, or local time. Sometimes even moving the watch around your wrist could change the mode. This could be due to the fact that the crown is easy to turn, and the crown guard does not extend very far on the bottom side of the watch, so it is too easy to rotate.
Even though the strap is made of titanium, it is still getting scratched easily, especially the outer-side facing part of strap and the clasp. - May be its the way I use it as I use it really rough, and had it been steel it would've been worse.
Overall, I am really pleased with the watch - it is a treasured possession, and something you can own for a decade or more without any problems.
Customer Rating: Summary: Citizen Eco-Drive Men's Titanium Perpetual Calendar Watch #BL5250-53L Comment: This watch is the 3rd Citizen chronograph I've owned in 38 years and it is by far the best. I like not having to deal with batteries (my first chronograph was a self winding mechanical). The face is easy to read (especially for the over 40 crowd) and the clasp on the band has a double lock so it is less likely to come loose when you slide your arm in your coat sleeve. The only fault is the alarm is not loud enough to be usable in any but the most quiet environments but I don't use the alarm for anything anyway. If you want an impressive looking "pilots" watch you should consider this one. It is a good value at around $300.00.
Customer Rating: Summary: Like the watch so far. Comment: I had done a fair amount of research into watches when I lost my old watch :( and decided on this one. I liked the perpetual calendar function and the eco-drive technology. I dont really need many other functions, but also liked the look of the watch. Even though I knew the thickness of the watch from the specs, I was still a little suprised to see how thick it really was - once I got some links taken out so it fit my wrist better, the thickness hasnt been a problem and doesnt seem so big. I like the look, havent had it switch modes on me, but have to admit I havent spent a lot of time with the instruction manual yet to try out some of the other features. For what it is, I have been pretty satisfied thus far.
Customer Rating: Summary: Surprisingly thick. Comment: Although it has been remarked on by other reviewers, the 13mm thickness of this watch still caught me by surprise when I received it. To put this in perspective, it is thicker than the Motorola Razor cell phone!
This watch is bought to replace a Seiko Kinetic, which is also quite bulky. Although the two look similar, I soon realize that Seiko and Citizen have taken very different approach in building the innards. The Kinetic has a capacitor/battery as the power source but is otherwise totally mechanical. This Citizen has an analog dial but is otherwise totally digital electronics inside, enabling it to offer a multitude of functionality.
Due to the Titanium construction, this watch is also surprisingly light, my wife's first reaction being "This is plastic?" It is quite comfortable to wear. I will keep it.
