Customer Rating: Summary: A very good phone with minor flaws Comment: I like the phone very much. Its sexy with great lights and the screen is bright. It is also my one & only mp3 player. I pair it with HBH-DS980 (bluetooth headset) or HPM-82 (wired headset). You have to buy both separately and I wish they put HPM-82 instead of the other headset in the box. I also use it to check the walking I do each day thanks to built-in pedometer. I also use it for my morning alarm and for occasionally used calender.
Now coming to the flaws (though they are minor)
1) The phone occasionally stops playing songs. I have to restart the device.
2) The bluetooth pairing has few glitches. When I press the play button on bluetooth, sometimes it won't play songs immediately. Either I have to try to initiate a call or select the phone from the list of devices connected and then press the play button for the bluetooth device and phone pair to work properly.
3) When I am walking, bluetooth audio drops for a sec or so and the frequency of dropping varies and sometimes it becomes very annoying. May be the builtin pedometer is using too much of processing power to count my steps. For walking and listening to songs, I suggest using the wired headset. In gym, its not a problem because I don't keep it in my pocket.
4) Playlist navigation is so-so. It can be much better.
5) Voice dialling fails even in little-moderate noisy environments. This irritates me the most. I can't do voice dialling (either with bluetooth or wired headset) in gym, car, or in any public space with muffled noises, a little music or one,two people talking. And voice dialling is needed mostly in those places. 100bucks spent for noise-cancelling bluetooth headset transforms my irritation into raging fury sometimes.
6) The keys on the top look a bit flimsy, but I don't use them much.
Customer Rating: Summary: Far too fragile Comment: This is a pretty good phone with a lot of good features when it works. Unfortunately, I will soon be on my fourth of these phones in less than 8 months, and I take good care of them. (My first replacement was sent DOA.)
Add on the fact that AT&T cellular customer support is beyond dismal, and run away from this phone. The warranty is an absolute joke. If it's not a known issue, they assume you abused it and charge $100 or $150 (depending on who you talk to) and an extra $13 for priority shipping for a replacement.
I would give this phone three or four stars if it worked reliably, but my experience has been terrible so far.
Customer Rating: Summary: Extremely unreliable - not recommended Comment: My wife and I both got these phones new from AT&T with a service plan 6 months ago. Both were treated gently.
My wife's died about 4 months after she got it. They replaced it. Mine now tells me to "Insert Smart Card" (which I'd never removed) daily, and I have to remove and re-insert the SIM card each time. Took it to the store, and they told me I had to buy a new phone. When I told them they had replaced my wife's for free, they said to "give it a try". However, if they judged the phone had been "physically damaged" (it is pristine), I would have to pay $325 for a new one. I'll update later and let you know...
The phone has never been reliable, and the features are mediocre. I did like the stereo mp3 player when it worked. It also has a pedometer which is neat. However, based on 2 dead phones in less than 6 months, I'd never buy Sony again.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not that great Comment: I have had this phone for just under a year. The worst thing is that it inexplicably stopped turning on one day, I sent it to Sony, they sent it back and it was still broken.
The advertising is somewhat misleading. I found that a lot of the things that sounded cool about it were things you had to buy, not included. You should also know that only the white phone comes with the memory card--for the black you have to buy one yourself. It was impossible to figure out how to get my iTunes music onto the phone because I have a Mac. It's also not very ergonomic in the hand or on the ear.
The camera is quite good, I like the step counter, and it fits in my pocket well. But I would not recommend it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Run from the Walkman Comment: Bought this phone when it was BRAND NEW...Never will I do that again. It was bad news from the start. Within 12 hours of receiving the phone, it died. It was immediately replaced by Amazon. Since last September, mine has been replaced an additional THREE MORE TIMES. My husband's has also been replaced twice.
The problems that have plagued us with this phone include (but are not limited to) the phone freezing between on/off, number keys cracking, navigational keys completely falling off, phone speakers barely audible, lost signals, not connecting to the network, having to reboot the phone to get it to work, failed calls, and dropped calls.
RUN AWAY! DO NOT BUY!
