Summary: Sounds Great !!
Comment: This band is unlike so many of the other one hit wonders. They just keep putting out one great album after another. This is far and away their best offering since What's The Story Morning Glory .

Summary: never trust a NME "best band ever" title
Comment: Am i a fan of Oasis? No, i'm not. Do i have Definitely Maybe? Of course, since that record has maybe four best songs ever played in UK in last 15 years, especially the #5 - Columbia....everything released after Oasis' debut is not worth of buying if you are over 16 yr of age and you have listened to Blur, Kaiser Chefs or Kings Of Leon.

Summary: Good job Oasis!!!
Comment: This is probably the best collection of songs Oasis has done since Morning Glory.

As soon as I heard the stomping blues-rock riff of "Bag It Up" I knew I was in for a very promising album.

Interestingly, the rest of the album didn't go the way I expected, but I did find that what lurked inside was of very good quality, its nice to see Oasis branch out sonically a little bit, adding in some more modern sounding beats to the equation. All in all, its a dense, heavy sounding album, with a bit of a psychedelic edge to some of the songs.

Some highlights for me:

-The immense swagger of "The Turning"
-The steam-hammer stomp of "(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady"
-The haunting majestic strings of "Falling Down"

The two lowlights:

-"The Nature Of Reality" does nothing for me. Maybe you'll like it, but it bores me to death, and the sitar on it makes it sound like a crappy rip-off of when the Beatles were doing something similar. Not that I hate the sitar as an instrument, I LOVE "To Be Where There's Life."
-"Ain't Got Nothin'" is such a generic Oasis song that it sounds like self-parody. Oh well, its barely 2 minutes, so it passes quickly.

But really, on the whole, the album is quite impressive. Oasis seems less concerned with conquering the world now and seems to be concentrating on just making good albums. And for that I applaud them, the dedication to their art shows on "Dig Out Your Soul," its a fantastic album.

Summary: Sounds good
Comment: Dave Sardy truly earned his keep with this one. It may be the best produced Oasis album ever. The drums sound incredible, something I've never said about an Oasis album. But even better, Oasis have recorded two of their best rockers in a long time: Bag It Up and Shock of the Lightning. The band bashes out these two and even have the decency to provide us with a nice melody and a good hook. There are other second tier highlights as well: The Turning (despite its annoying Austin Powers chorus "Shake your rag doll, baby"), Falling Down and To Be Where There's Life (the sitar actually works on this poppy song by Gem). Most of the other songs are enjoyable and well done, but not too memorable. Two of Liam's songs are interesting. I'm Outta Time does have a nice melody and flow to it, but it is undercut by a few jarring elements: the George Harrison sounding guitar and the Lennon sample at the end are just too much, creepy almost. Soldier On is very cool as well and serves as a good album closer. But just like Liam's decent closer on Heathen Chemistry (Better Man) the song needs to go somewhere, and it never does. Bell's the Nature of Reality has a nice riff, good beat and is strangely catchy but it just kind of plods along (and the lyrics are in Spinal Tap territory). Shockingly, of the first eight songs on this album, two of Noel's songs are by far the weakest: Get off Your High Horse Lady (it's as bad as the title) and Waiting for the Rapture. Just like Mucky Fingers on DBTT, Noel's Waiting for the Rapture threatens to derail the flow of the otherwise excellent first half of this album. Dig Out You Soul may not be as deep as it pretends to be (those lyrics, geez) or as classic as it wants to be, but it it is a good pop/rock album. The song writing does not always keep up with the quality of the band's performance and the production. A lot of reviewers ask: is this the best Oasis album since they imploded after the over-hyped (but underrated) Be Here Now? I think that question, though entertaining, misses the point. With aging bands like Oasis, I am not really looking for them to make another stone cold classic album. And all of Oasis' post-BHN albums have their moments of goodness or greatness. But the standout track on Dig Out Your Soul are the best stand out tracks on any Oasis album in a long time.
